The CT and MR Appearance of concomitant Ligamentum Flavum and Posterior Longitudinal Ligament Ossification in the Cervical Spine: a case report

چکیده
Ossification of spinal ligaments, such as ossification of ligamenta flava (OLF) and ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) in the cervical spine, is not common and usually asymptomatic. Once cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy due to the OPLL, OLF or both, surgical managements are often required when conservative treatment is not effective. The diagnosis is based on computed tomographic (CT) scan or magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The postoperative prognosis depends on the severity of the cervical myelopathy. We reported a 57-year-old female with concomitant OPLL and OLF in cervical spine and reviewed the literatures.

Simultaneous Diffuse Idiopathic Hyperostosis, Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament and Ligamentum Flavum
Background and Importance: A 60-year-old diabetic man with simultaneous diffuse idiopathic hyperostosis, massive ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament and cervical and higher part of thoracic ligamentum flavum is reported in this article. Such comorbidity rarely occurs. Case Presentation: The patient’s chief complaint was sensation abnormalities without gait disturbance or ...
متن کاملProgressive Relapse of Ligamentum Flavum Ossification Following Decompressive Surgery
Thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (T-OLF) is a relatively rare spinal disorder that generally requires surgical intervention, due to its progressive nature and the poor response to conservative therapy. The prevalence of OLF has been reported at 3.8%-26%, which is similar to that of cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). The progression of OPLL after c...
متن کاملSymptomatic ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament with stenosis of the cervical spine: a report of seven cases.
Seven men with a mean age of 63.9 years (59 to 67) developed dysphagia because of oesophageal compression with ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament (OALL) and radiculomyelopathy due to associated stenosis of the cervical spine. The diagnosis of OALL was made by plain lateral radiography and classified into three types; segmental, continuous and mixed. Five patients had associated ...
متن کاملCervical Laminoplasty for Multilevel Cervical Myelopathy
Cervical spondylotic myelopathy can result from degenerative cervical spondylosis, herniated disk material, osteophytes, redundant ligamentum flavum, or ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Surgical intervention for multi-level myelopathy aims to decompress the spinal cord and maintain stability of the cervical spine. Laminoplasty was major surgical advancement as laminectomy re...
متن کاملPrevalence of Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis Diagnosed by Whole Spine Computed Tomography: A Preliminary Study
Background Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is characterized by ossification of the enthesis. The diagnosis has been mainly based on the chest or whole spine lateral plain film. Recently, chest or thoracolumbar computed tomography (CT) has been reported to be more reliable for the diagnosis of DISH. The purposes of this study were to investigate the prevalence and location of DIS...
